Dick Cheney is providing filmed testimony about his life and years as vice president, and filmmaker R.J.

Cutler is the beneficiary.

After some 20 hours of interviews last year with George W. Bush's running mate, Cutler's documentary -- The World According to Dick Cheney -- debuts Friday night on the Showtime network.

In the film, Cheney talks about his still-debated actions surrounding 9/11, the war on terrorism, the Iraq War, executive authority and enhanced interrogation techniques -- and says he doesn't lie awake at night wondering what his critics think of him.

"He is not a man in retreat," Cutler said in a telephone interview.

Cutler's movie traces the arc of Cheney's crowded life, including his rise from Yale dropout to youngest White House chief of staff -- for President Gerald Ford -- at age 34.
